ESLIM NewsThe schedules for our Winter/Spring 2017 English classes have been announced. FALL 2016 ESLIM TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMS
NEW TEACHER TRAINING
ESLIM will offer two New Teacher training classes for Fall 2016.
The first class will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, at Dulin United Methodist Church, 513 E. Broad St, Falls Church VA 22406.
The second class will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 43454 Crossroads Dr, Ashburn VA 20147.
These workshops are primarily intended for new ESL teachers, but experienced ESL teachers who have not yet taken this training will benefit from it as well.
Lunch will be provided.
RETURNING TEACHER TRAINING
Refresh and Renew Teacher Training will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016. The training will be held from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 43987 John Mosby Highway, Chantilly VA 20152.

A summer session will be held at Ekklesia USA’s Reston Language Center at 1179 N. Shore Drive in Reston. The session will start on Monday evening, July 11 (7:30 – 9:30 pm) and will meet on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings (9:30 – 11:30 am) through Saturday, July 23.
Registration is on Monday, July 11 (7:30 pm-9:30 pm) and the cost is $15 for the four classes.
Classes are open to all adults (18 years and older) from all countries and faiths.
Childcare is not available during the classes.

Summer Classes are also being held at Foundry United Methodist Church at
1500 16th Street in Washington DC. Classes are meeting on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6:45 pm- 8:45pm) from now until August 2. Classes started in May, however, there is open registration every Tuesday and Thursday evening before the class. There is no charge for
the classes at Foundry UMC. Sorry, no childcare is available.

Refresh and Renew Teacher Training will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016. The training will be held from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm at Lord of Life Lutheran Church (5114 Twinbrook Road) in Fairfax.
In each training session our instructor, Lauren Lang, consistently provides useful teaching tips and exercises that can be used in all classes. This training session will focus on pronunciation.

At the November 1, 2015 meeting of the ESLIM Board of Directors, the Board unanimously voted to accept Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C., Ekklesia USA in Reston, Virginia, and Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Chantilly, Virginia as new members of the ESLIM coalition. We now offer classes in 18 locations in northern Virginia and the District of Columbia, with classes being held every day of the week except Sunday.
Sean Devolites (Pleasant Valley UMC), Amanda Sheldon (Foundry UMC), and Graciela Vasquez (Ekklesia USA) were elected to the Board of Directors as representatives of their church programs — and immediately contributed valuable insights and questions to the Board’s discussions. We are delighted to welcome our newest members of ESLIM!
Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. has applied to join ESLIM. Our new membership team has visited Foundry’s site and with their program’s leadership, found their programs and facilities to be excellent, and will enthusiastically recommend their admission to the ESLIM Board. Pending the Fall 2015 Board meeting, Foundry UMC will participate in ESLIM as an associate member.
Foundry UMC, which is located at 1500 16th Street, NW in Washington, has long offered ESL programs, originally as “survival” English lessons at the day laborer site at 15th and P Streets, NW in the District. Foundry offers three sessions of English classes each year, Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer. Foundry does not charge any fee for students to participate in its English classes.
We are delighted to welcome Foundry UMC to ESLIM.
