English as a Second Language and Immigrant Ministries, Inc. (ESLIM) promotes and supports the teaching of English to adult immigrants of all nationalities in Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia and welcomes their active participation in our community. In a typical semester for ESLIM, more than 300 volunteer teachers in our 21 member churches provide English classes to more than 950 immigrants. For more information about our program, please check our website at


We are looking for a part-time Program Administrator. The job takes about 10 hours per week on average (about 500 hours per year), but the hours fluctuate somewhat throughout the year. Peak times include August, September, December, and January. The work schedule is flexible and the work is done from home.


The primary responsibilities of the Program Administrator will include:

  • Respond to persons who express interest in working as volunteer teachers or assistants and placing them in touch with local churches who need volunteers
  • Respond to potential students who leave voicemails and send emails in English
  • Serve as a liaison with ESLIM program coordinators and board members in the day-to-day operations of ESLIM
  • Make minor updates to the website
  • Place paid advertisements in foreign-language newspapers
  • Place free public service announcements in newspapers and radio stations
  • Organize and manage logistics for teacher training sessions
  • Correspond and meet with prospective member programs
  • Assist with logistics for ESLIM board meetings and attend board meetings
  • Once a year direct mail solicitation to potential donors
  • Maintain files

Required Qualifications:

  • Basic facility with computers (Microsoft Word and Excel; make PDFs; email)
  • Availability of home office with Internet access, a computer, and a printer
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience in working with volunteers
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend meetings and trainings
  • Commitment to remain with program at least one year
  • Ownership of a car

Plus Factors:

  • Administrative or bookkeeping experience
  • Experience with teaching English as a Second Language or working with immigrants
  • Familiarity with church organization
  • Ability to speak one or more languages other than English (ideally Spanish, Korean, Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, or Farsi)
  • Familiarity with WordPress

Compensation: $15.50 per hour
