Teachers and assistants are needed for the upcoming semester in several locations.

January 2020 Teacher Training News

Our January 2020 teacher trainings will be held on Saturday, January 25 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 3810 Meredith Drive in Fairfax, Virginia.

The abbreviated new teacher training will start at 9:00 am and end at noon. The returning teacher training will start at 1:00 pm and end at 4:00 pm. This session will focus on strategies for increasing interaction in classes through role plays, line drills and other activities that encourage active student participation. Both sessions will be led by Lauren Lang.

Please include the name of the church where you are volunteering, which session you plan to attend, and a phone number where you can be reached. Registration closes on Thursday, January 23. In the event of inclement weather, the classes will be held on February 1.

Volunteers Needed in DC

Volunteer teachers are urgently needed from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at our Community of Christ location in Washington. If you are able to help, please fill out the volunteer application you find on this site.  A background in education is not required; all that you need to work with us is a sincere desire to help others acquire or improve their English skills.

New Teacher Training Dates Announced

Training will be available for teachers new to ESLIM in August and in September.  The August session will be at Dulin United Methodist Church in Falls Church on August 24, and the September session will be at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Ashburn on September 7.  Both will be led by Lauren Lang, and participants will leave with new ideas and the confidence needed to teach their classes.  Teachers may register for either one of the two sessions.

These sessions start at 9:00 am and end at 3:00 pm.  Lunch and light refreshments will be provided.

To register for training, please send your contact information to [email protected].  Please include the name of the church where you will be teaching, and the date you will be attending.  Advance registration is required for planning purposes. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Learn or improve your English skills with us!

Our next session will start in September.   See the class schedule, and make plans to register on the dates shown.  We welcome adult immigrants and non-native speakers from every faith and every background.  Choose the location most convenient for you, and we will help you begin.  If you have questions, please call 703-841-0292, or email us at [email protected].

 

Free Citizenship Classes

Citizenship-prep classes will be offered soon at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield.  Classes start Tuesday, April 23, and end Thursday, May 16.  Students will attend classes every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.  These classes are free and open to everyone.

New Teacher Training January 26,2019

Lauren Lang will conduct an abbreviated training session for new teachers on Saturday, January 26, at Centreville UMC from 9:00 am to noon.  Teachers new to ESLIM as well as returning teachers who have not previously attended a training are invited to attend.  To register for the training, send your contact information to http://[email protected].

Free Citizenship Classes To Be Offered At Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield

Starting October 29, 2018, Prince of Peace will offer an intensive class to help students prepare for the citizenship test.  The 12-session class will be offered three evenings per week from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.  The class will end November 21.  Please contact the office at eslim.org for additional information.

Community of Christ Update

The registration date for classes at the Community of Christ location has been changed.  The new date to register is next Sunday, September 23 at 6:00 pm.  We offer our sincere apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced, and we hope to see you next Sunday.
