and understanding they seek. - Stephen Rhodes

About ESLIM

VolunteersOur History
English as a Second Lnaguage and Immigrant Ministries began in 1989 in the basement of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church with 3 teachers and 25 students.

Today, ESLIM is a 501(c)(3) corporation and has grown to include 20 locations in Northern Virginia with enrollments totalling 2500 students a year and instruction and support provided by 450 volunteers. Classes are offered during the academic year of September to June, every day of the week, both daytime and evening.

Our Mission
We promote and support the teaching of English to adult immigrants in Northern Virginia and welcome their active participation in our community.

Our Vision
We want our English-learning neighbors to reach their full potential in our community and we strive to assist their efforts by coordinating quality English instruction throughout Northern Virginia. Our ministry consists of trained volunteers and an effective curriculum, and takes place in sites convenient and welcoming to all.

We want to continue to merit the support of the area’s United Methodist Church, which has enabled our success since inception, and other faith-based community organizations, and the community as a whole.
